Matt Dell is a community leader with a proven record of getting results for Victoria residents.  Since being elected to Victoria City Council in 2022, Matt has delivered on the promises he made to the community.

Matt has worked to tackle the housing crisis by approving homes for people, including 5000 new rental homes, 1300 affordable homes and numerous major housing projects - all designed around walkable, green and unique neighbourhoods. To make our city more vibrant, Matt helped save Hermann’s Jazz Club, secured approval to build a new Crystal Pool, expanded funding for parks, and started the OURDWTN program to revitalize downtown.

Matt knows that a thriving cultural sector and accessible recreation opportunities are essential to our quality of life.  That’s why Matt worked to sustain popular local events like Symphony Splash and open the swimming dock of Banfield Park.

Community Service

In the community, Matt served the President of the South Jubilee Community Association from 2018-2022, where he worked to connect neighbours, organize community events and address neighbourhood concerns. Matt coached and served on the Board at National Little League, and coached youth soccer with Bays United.

To support at-risk youth , Matt started the “Do The Loop” fundraiser, a 25km run around Victoria, that raised over $68,000 for Threshold Housing Society.

Music and art are a passion for Matt, who is well-known in  Victoria’s music community as an event organizer and musician. Matt toured Canada extensively with his previous music projects, Kincaide (metal) and Croatia (electronic).

Professional Experience

Matt currently serves as a Director of Legislation at the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, with the Government of B.C. Matt also spent seven years working on taxation policy and legislation at the Ministry of Finance.

He has a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Victoria, with a specialization in policies to support small-scale & urban agriculture in BC.

Family

Matt lives in the South Jubilee neighborhood of Victoria with his family. He spends most of his free spare time with his kids, Sophie (9) and Corbin (13).
